massive , sizzling synth pads . Watching him , I thought how cool it would be if the pedal could do this on its own .
From there we boxed up the P & C and sent it to our engineer Robert , who deconstructed and redesigned it from the ground up . Robert added his unique signature via an additional , adjustable gain stage and an envelope follower section to control the pedal ’ s gain based on the input signal .
Anyone that knows me well knows these two things about me . One : I dig making my Bass sound like a synth , and two : I have an arsenal of vintage and boutique effects that I ’ ve hoarded in order to accomplish this goal .
Sometimes when things get quiet around the HQ , I ’ ll dig out one of these obscure artifacts and let my assistant , Will mess with it — he ’ s a shreddin ’ bassist and also has a penchant for making his instrument sound decidedly un-bass-like .
One of these test subjects was the Crowther Prunes & Custard — a bizarre , filtery fuzz from the ‘ 90s that reacts to playing dynamics in very interesting ways .
Plugging in the P & C , Will started using his volume knob to make these long , slow swells that blossomed into
These changes dramatically increased the versatility and musicality of the circuit , and thus the Dynamorph was born .
If the Prunes is atypical for a fuzz , the Dyna is extraordinary . It can create all manners of bleeps , burps , blurps and squawks in addition to the sexy , sweptfilter fuzz sounds that the P & C is famous for .
