WHAT’S NEW AT Second Annual Woke Week GMercyU hosted its second annual Woke Week in early November. This week-long event focuses on various social justice issues in light of the current political climate and in line with the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy. There were programs and events scheduled for the entire GMercyU community, including discussions around diversity and immigration as well as Suicide Prevention Training. The week culminated with GMercyU’s inaugural Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, which raises awareness about sexual assault and gender violence. The week got its name from the popular slang term, “woke.” Woke, according to Urban Dictionary, is often used instead of “awake” to reference how people should be aware of current issues.
