38% Increase in jobs using digital communication skills expected from 2018-2026 In response to market demand and industry changes, GMercyU’s new Digital Communications program will prepare students to be effective communicators in today’s digitized world. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs using digital communication skills are expected to increase by 38% from 2018-2026, more than five times the national average for all occupations. By combining theory with practical writing, speaking, and marketing skills, students will be prepared to enter a variety of industries after graduation. It’s no surprise that social media has become an integral part of companies’ business strategies. That’s why students in the new program will learn how to develop, implement and evaluate social media strategies. AnaLee Rodriguez, a 2015 alum of GMercyU’s Communication program, has been working in the digital media landscape since graduating. She has seen first-hand the need for Communication professionals to have multi- media experience along with a strong foundation in traditional writing. “Having the digital and traditional skills are essential for edging out competition today,” AnaLee said. “This also enables big-name companies to choose you, as some of the largest sports and entertainment companies have given me the opportunity to work on their branded stories because I understand both digital and traditional communication.” AnaLee is currently a Marketing Specialist for the University of Florida and owns her own digital marketing and design company, AR Elite Studio. When hiring interns for her company, AnaLee seeks digital-first candidates. For the spring 2019 semester, AnaLee hired GMercyU Sports Management student Ryan McCook. Ryan assists AnaLee with social media management for a race car driver. Students enrolled in the Digital Communications program have the option of earning both their bachelor’s degree and master’s in business administration through GMercyU’s 4+1 MBA program, which enables students to complete 12 graduate-level credits in their senior year as part of their undergraduate tuition.
