University in the first round of the CSAC playoffs. In her debut season, freshman Victoria Braeunle was named the 2018 CSAC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference in points (102), assists (33), and free-position goals (25). These stats also placed her on the All-CSAC First Team. Senior midfielder Lauren Mitros was given a spot on the Second Team while sophomore Samantha Brown and freshman Alyssa Tomsic were both given honorable mention nods. Ten women made the CSAC All-Academic Team, seniors Carrie Kilgore, Lauren Mitros, junior Jamie McCarney, sophomore Samantha Brown, and freshmen Braeunle, Tomsic, Megan Crammer, Madison McCue, Camryn Sheehan, and Nicole Wood. The entire team was also honored with a CSAC Academic Team Honor for putting up a collaborative GPA of 3.525. Softball Griffin Softball put together a record- breaking season this spring, posting a program-record best 30-7 mark, and a 20-2 conference record to earn the #1 playoff seed for the first time in school history. They were knocked out of the playoffs, however, losing to Neumann University in an elimination game of the CSAC Tournament. Sophomore Melissa Hess was named CSAC Pitcher of the Year and she made First-Team All CSAC. Joining her on the CSAC First Team is sophomore catcher, Amanda Clark. Senior Jessica Behr and sophomore Lauren Waller were also recognized with honorable mentions. Senior Tara Matteo earned a spot on the CSAC All- Sportsmanship roster. Head Coach Ron Smull was named the CSAC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. Men’s Tennis The Griffins finished their 2018 season with an overall record of 5-6 and a conference record of 4-3. The team qualified for the CSAC Team Tournament, but their run was cut short by Cabrini University in a semifinal defeat. Freshman Max Schneider was named the CSAC Rookie of the Year and was selected for the All-CSAC Second Team in both Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles. He was joined by junior Brian Irwin on both All CSAC teams, while fellow freshman Justin Collins was recognized with an honorable mention. It seems like the freshmen were on their game this season, with yet another newcomer, Trevor Vitz, making the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Women’s Tennis GMercyU served up their fifth-straight CSAC Championship with a 5-0 victory over Immaculata University in the finals. The team, which also captured the ninth title in program history, totaled a final record of 14-4 and played in the NCAA Division III Team Tournament against the University of Scranton. Junior Katie Garthaus was named the CSAC Player of the Year for the third season in a row as a total of six Griffins earned all-conference honors. Garthaus, seniors Amanda Goff and Robyn Belen and junior Natalie Danze all earned first- team All-CSAC accolades in both singles and doubles. Sophomore Jenna Trythall and freshman Nicolette Diaz picked up second team honors as well. Men’s Track and Field finish in the ECAC Championship. The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Sean Cole, junior Rashid Marrow, sophomore Joe McCoy, and freshman Chris Worthington earned a Second- Team All CSAC selection. McCoy was also given a second-team nod for his efforts in the triple jump. Fellow triple jump competitor, junior Patrick Timlin, was awarded with an honorable mention. To round out the end of year awards, freshman Brandon Higgins earned himself a spot on the CSAC All- Sportsmanship Team. Women’s Track and Field Women’s Track and Field finished the 2018 season with a third-place finish in the CSAC Championship and an 18th place finish in the ECAC Championship. Freshman Rainah Dunham was clearly the breakout star of the season, earning the title of CSAC’s Field Athlete of the Year and getting first-team nods in six different events. Junior Chyanne Fine joined Dunham on the first team for her performance in the discus. Fine was also given a spot on CSAC’s Second Team for her success in the shot put. Junior Sara Gray and sophomore Morgan Williams made the second-team as well for their efforts in the High Jump and the 100 Meters respectively. Gray managed to break her own school record and set a new one with a 1.62 meter jump at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Qualifier. Both Gray and Dunham were deemed all-region track and field athletes by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCA). The Griffins capped off their 2018 season with a sixth place finish in the CSAC Championship and a 21st place TODAY 15
