Reflection report
I remember how it all started. I walked in classroom 009 feeling like a nothing (on cultural levels of
course). Two years later, and Art and Culture has changed me more than I could have ever imagined.
Here is a report on how and why Art and Culture transformed me from an innocent teenager to an
intellectual world citizen.
What did I see or experience within Art and Culture?
For Art and Culture I went to many different shows. Some were dance recitals, or opera’s. Others
were more about drama and acting. I also visited quite some museum this last few years. I wrote
CA’s about exhibitions, violin concerts, galleries, and even a park. Looking back at my first CA, which I
wrote just about one-and-a-half year ago, I can see the difference if comparing it with my final CA. I
have grown on cultural aspects and I have absolutely gained knowledge on art, the society and the
vast variety of cultures. Not to mention my English has gotten better too. These improvement I made
are due to the Art and Culture lessons I had for two year long.
What did I learn in Art and Culture?
The movies I saw, the practical assignments I did, and the shows I went to are all a part of me now. I
learned that arts and cultures changes over time, and that people are constantly on the lookout for
new, original, and boundary breaking ways to create art. I have also learned to form an opinion
properly. Everyone has their own way of looking at art, which is why I personally don’t think that
there is a definition for it. Art is subjective and thus for every individual different.
What did surprise me the most in Art and Culture?
The lessons and the subject itself weren’t that surprising to me. We mostly watched movies or we
were busy with some project. However, what was surprising to me was the fact that I actually
learned something. This may sound weird, but I expected Art and Culture to be a nice and creative
subject on school, but not really helpful for the future in any way. How could I have been so wrong? I
learned allot, and experienced so much that after a while, I began to see the society in a different
way. Also, I believe the projects made the classmates bond with each other into an emotionally
stronger and more evolved group of intellectual human beings.
Did I manage Art and Culture?
Overall I did manage to hand in almost every task in time and correctly done. Of course there were
difficult projects, like the Fluxus project we did in year 5. And of course there were one or two CA’s I
handed in a little later than the deadline, but overall I handed my projects in on time, without
complaining. I enjoyed making the CA’s, listening to every project, and attending class every single
time!
