Abby Greer is their Executive Director, as well as, founder of the Kent Community TimeBank (KCTB).

Greer is also involved with developing Community Weaver 3, something she states is “only a piece of timebanking,” but extremely helpful all the same.

She first started timebanking, almost by chance, when she read TimeBanks USA founder Edgar Cahn’s book, Time Dollars. “It spoke to me.”

Greer says, because it held something that she believed in – people, trusting and enjoying people.

When KCTB was founded in 2010, Greer was not expecting the community to embrace it so much. She recalls thinking “how big is this going to get?” as the TimeBank grew with people both within the community and even 30 minutes away. Over the next few years, TimeBanks opened in the neighboring communities of Twinsburg, Ravenna, and Stark County.

This incredible growth prompted the creation of CRAT, originally intended as a hub for information and resources.

In regards to the new certification, Greer is excited for CRAT to be better able to help educate, train and provide resources to both alliance TimeBanks and collaborative partners.

Admittedly, Greer is a bit nervous about all the new responsibility. However, she is excited, and ready to begin this new chapter.

Throughout my discussion with her, I couldn’t help but be struck by her passion and drive to nurture the lifestyle that is timebanking.

Greer believes, strongly but with caution, that in 5 years there will be at least one timebank in every state.

So long as people believe in each other and work with each other, timebanking will thrive.
