FEE CAMPING DEBATE:
Industry boss admits parks
need to lift standards
The first CEO to head Australia’s new
and powerful caravan and camping
industry body believes less regulation
will make caravan parks more
competitive and help ease tensions
over the issue of free camping.
Incoming Caravan Industry Association
of Australia (CIAA) CEO Stuart Lamont
says government red tape is making
it too expensive for new caravan
parks to get off the ground.
However Mr Lamont also concedes
more needs to be done to get more
parks to lift their standards and sign up
to the CIAA’s accreditation scheme.
He says as few as 400 parks in Australia
are accredited today – a number he
believes the new organisation can double.
The caravan and camping industry’s
two former peak lobby groups, the
CRVA (representing parks) and RVMA
(representing manufacturers) are merging
