Maggie ’ s Centre at the Robert Parfett Building by Foster + Partners won the Arnold Laver Gold Award at the 2016 Wood Awards .

Wood Awards 2016 showcase the best of the best

Maggie ' s Centre at the Robert Parfett Building by Foster + Partners has taken the top prize at this year ' s prestigious Wood Awards , winning the Arnold Laver Gold Award ahead of a host of other strong contenders .

The voting for Maggie ’ s to receive the Gold Award was unanimous with the judges commenting that the remarkable structure “ has brought together the best in engineering , fabrication and architecture ”.

The winners of the 45th annual Wood Awards , cosponsored by the Timber Research and Development Association ( TRADA ), were announced at a ceremony held on 22 November last year at Carpenters ’ Hall in London .
The Gold Award was chosen from all of the buildings shortlisted in each category . Maggie ’ s at the Robert Parfett Building was also awarded the Structural Award as it demonstrates that a simple , coherent structural diagram , when beautifully and carefully developed and detailed , can result in a solution of considerable merit .
Other winners on the night included the Stihl Treetop Walkway as the Commercial and Leisure winner , which judges said “ has the ability to inspire all generations to learn more about wood ”.
The judges selected Stanbrook Abbey as the Education and Public Sector category winner as it is “ spiritually uplifting and sculptural within the landscape . The detailing on the furniture pieces in the church is superb ”. And the Portledge Rear Staircase took the spoils in the Interiors category with the judges describing it as “ a faultless piece of work , a surprising intervention in the historic context that works extremely well ”.
