Tourism Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo during the Press Conference PHL a must-see for Miss U 2017 winners by Philip Ortaleza & Nil Garces Belar 44 M ANILA – It does make a very interesting and heartwarming thing to do, the 2017 Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Peters from South Africa, together with her predecessor, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere and other candidates, to visit what is perhaps one of the most pageant-obssessed countries in the world: the Philippines! Starting December 5, these lovely ladies who combine beauty, brains, inner strength and compassion will be touring the country to enjoy, and help promote the country’s charming sights and colourful culture. Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said it was the Miss Universe Organization that personally requested the agency to let the ladies tour the country "Actually when the Miss Universe was here, I think that was in mid-September, they wanted us to host the Miss Universe again, the president told us na 'wag na lang muna dahil ASEAN (summit) but hopefully next year," she said. "So they asked us again kung pwede yung mga candidates na mga nanalo could come to the Philippines because last January, the candidates went around the Philippines and they said the candidates really want it."
