Proudly standing in its spectacular grounds for over 450 years, Carberry Tower has been fortunate enough to witness some prominent historic events including the battle of Mary Queen of Scots. In June 1567, Queen Mary spent her last few hours of freedom on Carberry Hill, before surrendering to her rebellious nobles. A monument, the Queen’s Mount, still stands in the grounds commemorating the incident. More recently Carberry was home to Lady Mary Bowes-Lyon, sister of the late Queen Mother, and provided a place of play for Queen Elizabeth II and her sister Princess Margaret when they were children.

From the classic elegance of the interiors to the exquisitely maintained Rose Gardens, the castle offers an oasis of calm and tranquility yet conveniently only 7 miles from the buzzing heart of Edinburgh.
