Aromatherapy: An Age Old Cure for Body, Mind and Spirit
For centuries, aromatherapy has been used for
health and beauty care. Essential oils can be used
as inhalations, in massage therapy, baths, facials,
and in compresses and wraps to restore and
regenerate us.
Essential oils are derived from bark, roots, stalks,
leaves, flowers and resins from trees and plants.
They can be used as an antibacterial, antifungal,
antiviral, antispasmodic or as an antidepressant.
Aromatherapy treatments have many therapeutic,
healing benefits. They eliminate toxins, reduce
stress and tension and can firm, tone, cleanse and
moisturize your skin.
Essential oils work two ways. First, they penetrate
the skin and affect the bloodstream (like a nicotine
patch). Secondly, when they are inhaled they
directly affect the nervous system. Our olfactory
system affects our hypothalamus which regulates
our hormones. So, getting a whiff of jasmine or
peppermint can alter your mood and emotions.
The emotions listed below can be gently eased by
one or a combination of the following essential
oils:
Anxiety
Bergamot, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Frankincense,
Lavender, Patchouli, Roman Chamomile, Rose and
Sandalwood.
