Raising funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance
You may have your pets chipped, but
did you know similar microchips are
implanted in many things we buy.
These Radio Frequency Identifi cation
tags (RFID) automatically identify
and track the movement of attached
objects.
Had a new passport recently?
Hundreds of passports used to be
‘lost in the post’. Now when hand
delivered, the RFID chip it contains
confi rms to the Passport Offi ce it has
reached its correct destination. This is
just one marketing technique I reveal
in a talk called ‘Savvy Shopping’ I give
to raise funds for the East Anglian Air
ambulance.
Other popular talks include ‘Behind
the Bathroom Door’ (a look at hygiene
through the ages) and ‘Knickers!
The History of underwear’. All
talks come with props which often
provoke humour and memories. Who
remembers wearing a Liberty Bodice
before the days of central heating?
And as a country child did you have
a toilet in the garden? I have been
giving talks to WIs, Inner Wheel, Rotary
and similar groups for six years and
have a portfolio of half a dozen topics.
Groups vary greatly, from one with a
few ladies, none under 80, and several
of whom fell asleep during my talk, to
large, lively branches with over 60 men
and women who participate with great
enthusiasm.
Whatever money received, I Gift Aid to
the East Anglian Air Ambulance, a vital,
life-saving charity. Hopefully you will
never need their services, but I know
if you do, they will come up trumps.
Thanks to the generosity of numerous
East Anglian groups, I have been able
to add several thousand pounds to this
charity’s coffers.
