The days are getting shorter and the deer are getting active. The next time you’re riding the countryside, and even the suburbs, be a little more aware that deer and other critters are going to be out there on our roads. We need to teach deer how to read, that way they could cross the road where the “Deer Xing” signs are. Pipe dream, I know… It was great to meet some of our southwest Missouri readers at the Birthplace of Route 66 Rally. We truly feel like we made some new friends in that area as well as from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and even Texas. The riders from AR and OK talked about picking up Thunder Roads Magazine back home all the time. They had high praises for what TRM does for their motorcycle community and thanked us for doing the same. It is always good to hear good news like this, especially when it is from “out of the blue”. With the main riding season half over here in the Midwest, the upcoming events are piling in. There are many annual events in the next couple months as well as a lot of smaller and new events scattered throughout the area. These events certainly have a precious mission to help kids, people, our Vets and even pets. I urge our readers to at least look at the calendar and find a couple of new events to support. One newer event to pay attention to is named the Recovery from Addiction with Hope (RAH). As you probably know, Heroin is a problem all across the nation. There are many reasons why it is spreading from coast to coast, but until the distribution diminishes, people and families have to deal with the aftermath of this addictive drug. There are many anti heroin events planned throughout the Midwest. I am sure most of us know of a family that has been thrown into this nightmare… 9/11 NEVER Forget!
