Single Mom Schericka Gee This issues Stylized THRIVE Spotlight is Schericka Gee none other than women’s clothing brand designer of SHE brand. Before the interview begins, I give Schericka the rundown of how the interview will go. She sits there on video with her signature look of pearls, her SHE brand T shirt and her head wrap. Looking as beautiful and sophisticated as she is. Schericka Gee is a 38 almost 39 single mother of 1 7 year old daughter Landyn. HR Assistant by day and clothing designer of the phenomenal brand SHE at night from Mayesville, South Carlonia. Sat down to discuss with yours truly life as single mother and clothing brand designer. Getting to know Schericka during this interview has been true pleasure and inspiration and hopefully as she puts titles it “sister girl” relationship. J. Nicolle: Do you only have the one child and do you want more? Schericka Gee: Yes I only have one. No, I knew that I did not want a lot of children because I am someone that is hyper but don’t like a lot of noise. Not sure if that makes sense, but I am not one for a lot noise or commotion so one child was pretty much enough for me. hand. So it’s like half and half all the time, but I would not change it for the world. (We continue to have small talk and a laugh) Schericka Gee: It was, you have to adjust. I went from being married 16 years and being in house with someone every day and to the commotion and noise and now when I come home it’s like oh what I am going to do with all this time. It was a blessing in disguise that SHE happened when it did because it was kind of like my companionship, if that makes sense. Because I went from not having that companionship to now having anything. My brand is my date on Friday nights and I am dating the business and loving on the business. By no means is it a fair trade off and by no means can it that take place of a physical person, but I do believe God does do things for a reason. SHE came along when it did for a reason so I take that as that because it could have come along when the marriage was “THRIVING” and I could have been torn between the business and the relationship. Although it’s not a fair tradeoff I do know why God did it when he did it. Schericka Gee: I love it but as my daughter is coming along and grows it’s like my job is getting in the way and I feel like I do not have enough time in my day. Still Trying to be a mother, trying to be daughter, sister, co-worker, you to be all these things and by time I get home every day at 6 o’clock, from 6p to 11p I am trying to figure out how much I can pack out those hours. J Nicolle: How long have you been a single mother? Schericka Gee: Actually, I was married and living together all up until about a year ago (2016). As I transitioned to SHE little does anyone know I was going through separation at the same time. So as SHE was coming about I was going through the separation with my ex. People really do not know how much I had to sacrifice for SHE. I had to build the brand and still had to battle everyday life, kind of what everybody else goes through and still had go through all that at the same time. I have been a single mother now for about 9-10 months we have been separated 30 THRIVE MAGAZINE J. Nicolle: Was it hard for you to adjust to being a single mom? What’s your life like as single mom and clothing designer? J Nicolle: Married for 16 years? Schericka Gee: Yea, 16 years we were together for 17 and half. As the brand is growing I am kind of growing in my personal life as well. J. Nicolle: Did you all date in High School? It’s been a challenge and a process. I have days I am like, what am I doing? Other days, I have it all like the back of my Schericka Gee: No. We got married at 21. So I was pretty young. So... you realize I’m pushing 40. I holding up pretty THRIVE MAGAZINE 31
