Class Notes
Class of 1955 Sally Chase shares,
“I’m a snowbird. I leave Maine in
November and return in April. [My]
6 th great-grandchild arrived in June—a
sweet little boy named Finley. Golf,
fishing, fairs, and gardening kept me
busy for the summer.”
Class of 1958 Mary Baldyga shares,
“I spent a wonderful vacation in South
Dakota visiting my daughter who was
an employee at Mount Rushmore. She
was a wonderful tour guide, taking me
to many tourist attractions. Visiting
Maine is always a pleasure. I met with
my brothers, John ’56, Fred ’59, and
Amos ’60.”
Class of 1958 Deborah Olstad
volunteers as a counselor with
California’s End of Life law.
Class of 1958 Carole A. Spiller writes
in, “I had a wonderful time at the
Senior Luncheon and enjoyed seeing
so many classmates. It was one of my
first outings since I lost my husband,
Don and it helped me see many of
my friends! If anyone is in the Valley
Forge, PA area, please call me and let’s
get together!”
Class of 1959 Sheila A. Wyatt shares
she has been married to the same dear
man for 53 years. They have three
daughters, five granddaughters, one
grandson, and one great-grandson.
Life is good!
Class of 1961 Peter C. Gordon shares,
“I continue my prison ministry as
a member of the KAIROS prison
ministry. I also volunteer as a teacher
at Pendleton Correctional Facility in
Indiana, a maximum security prison
where I volunteer as an assistant
chaplain. I still play golf a couple of
times a week.”
Class of 1963 Gerard Bilodeau retired
after 22 years in the Army National
Guard and Army Reserve! He now

“Next year my company, Ron Forest
& Sons Fence Company will be 50
years old and I am passing it on to my
grandson, Patrick Roy, in my estate.”

Class of 1963 Robert E. Parslow
returned to Maine permanently
after six years in FL as a church
administrator. No more missing family
and friends!
Class of 1965 Cindy (Warren) Estano
and her husband, Chuck, write, “ I
want to thank the class of 1958 for
showing and giving your love and
friendship to my sister, Carole Warren
Spiller, following her battle with cancer
and after her husband Don Spiller’s
death in May. It was an honor having
so many of you at our home for the
celebration of Don’s life. Thanks to
many of our family members who
are also TA alumni. Her family and
friends were very impressed by the
closeness and the strong friendships
of her classmates. I’ve known many of
you since I was a little girl. I looked up
to you then and still do now. Thanks
again and love to all!”
Class of 1970 Jon B. Boutet welcomed
a new granddaughter, Elliana, born in
June 2016 to son Chad ’04 and Amy
Boutet. He is a proud grampa to his
first grandchild!

Tsomides led Thornton Academy
students in a loud cheer at the
Homecoming rally this past fall. See
box on p. 36 for more!
Class of 1975 Mary (Kiely) Sicard
shares, “I am retiring from Burns
School this June!”
Class of 1981 Richard Corriveau
sends his thanks to David Pendleton
and Todd Davis for a wonderful 35 th
class reunion celebration! Well done!
Class of 1981 Eric Purvis was recently
appointed to the Board of Directors for
the Maine Sports Hall of Fame, which
honors and recognizes Maine athletes
and sports figures that have brought
distinction to the State of Maine, and
provides awards and scholarships to
Maine high school scholar-athletes.

Charles “Chuck” Tsomides
’73 led Thornton Academy
students in a loud cheer at
the Homecoming rally this
past fall. Chuck has been
a lifelong supporter of the
Golden Trojans and is one
of the football team’s biggest
fans. He encouraged current
students to “keep trying to
do your best and think of
making progress towards
the future.”

Class of 1966 Wayne E. Nason
shares, “I lost my wife of 36 years last
November. She was the mother of
Sue Connor Ward ’82, Buffy Connor
Bullard ’83, Hugh G. Connor II ’84,
and Kristan Connor Gould ’87. She
will be missed.”
Class of 1988 Kerri Bassett shares,
“I am currently attending Argosy
University in Atlanta, GA, working
towards my Bachelors in Psychology.
I only have five weeks left of my
first year and am currently on the
President’s List with a 4.0. I am also a
member of The National Society Of
Collegiate Scholars.”
Class of 1988 Thayer Redman had
a great time with his family at the
Cleveland Browns stadium visiting
with former athlete Seth DeValve who
was drafted in the 4 th round this year,

Thayer Redman ’88 (right) with

game of the year. This past summer he
traveled to Rio to see a former athlete
Michael Flight Hartfield long jump at
the Olympics. This was a dream come
true and a trip of a lifetime.
Class of 1998 Jennifer (Conley)
Burnett, a first grade teacher at Walter
Caldwell Elementary in Florida, was
named a Finalist for Polk County’s
Teacher of the Year. See p. 32.
Class of 1998 Josh Fearon has been
named President of P&C Insurance,
succeeding Roland Eon.
Class of 2003 Erin Hatch graduated
with her doctorate degree in Clinical
Psychology from Antioch University
New England in 2014 and is currently
a licensed psychologist in the state
of Maine. She currently works as a
Sport Psychologist at the University of
Southern Maine and Maine Medical
Partners Orthopedics and Sports
Medicine. She recently got married to
Matthew Merritt and was inducted in
the Thornton Academy Athletic Hall of
Fame in October.
Class of 2013 Courtney O’Brien
is a senior at the University of
New Hampshire and co-captain of
the Women’s Rowing Team. They
competed in the Head of the Charles
Regatta in Boston (the largest two-
day regatta in the world) and earned
a Bronze Medal with a time of 21:06
on the 4,800 meter course. They
were third behind Barry University
from Florida and Carleton College in
Minnesota.
Class of 2015 Jessie Zhao shares,
“I’m currently a sophomore at Emory
University who double majors in
Economics and Linguistics. This past
summer, I studied abroad at London
School of Economics for two months,
where I learned interesting concepts
and also analyzed the trends of
Brexit with professors. I’m currently
working as an ESL (English as a
Second Language) Writing Tutor and
EPASS Tutor of Economics at Emory.
Also, I work at Student Involvement,
Leadership, Transitions Office
(under the division of Campus Life)
as a student consultant to conduct
organization president’s trainings,
organize Leadership, Service, Diversity
Awards, help students get involved,
and deliver workshops in servant
leadership. In addition, I have been
a teaching assistant since the second
semester of my freshman year. All of
these opportunities have helped me to
strengthen my communication skills
and to better understand other people’s
struggles as I continue to realize my
own problems growing up cross-
culturally. This summer, I will be an
intern at a local finance firm based in
Manhattan, NY for a month.”
Jessie Zhao & Ms. Katy Nicketakis
Class of 2015 Tourner Moseley will
travel to Columbus, Ohio in March
as a member of the UGA Ice Dawgs
Hockey Team for the ACHA D3
National Championships. Tourner
is in his second year playing defense
for the team, which has won the
SECHC Championship both years.
Tourner has also made the SECHC All
Academic Team both years. Tourner
is a sophomore at UGA majoring in
Biological Sciences/Pre-Dental with a
minor in Exercise and Sports Science.
He is an undergraduate research
assistant for the UGA Concussion
Research Laboratory.
