Lily of the Valley indicates sweetness and purity and says, “You’ve made my life complete.” tle that probably originated in the Middle East and is emblematic of Mediterranean Europe and North Africa. Orange blossoms symbolize eternal love, purity, innocence, chastity and fertility. Asters Red tulip Red tulips signify perfect, un- dying love. Their black center is supposed to represent a lover’s heart in the heat of passion. Other flowers that symbolize eternal love are yarrow and helio- trope. Asters are an emblem of Venus, the goddess of love. They signify love, daintiness, patience, wisdom and faithfulness. Throughout the world, chry- santhemums represent happiness, love, longevity, respect and honor. Specifically, red chrysanthemums say, “I love you” and white chry- santhemums indicate pure love and loyalty. Love and Loyalty Anemones mean tenderness and devotion. One Greek myth states that Anemona was the name of a beautiful nymph who lived at the court of the goddess Flora and Zephyr, the god of the west wind. Zephyr fell in love with Anemona and Flora, in a jealous rage, turned Anemona into a flower – a tender one. Chrysanthemum White daisies signify loyal love, purity, beauty and patience among a host of other charming qualities. In Norse mythology, Freya is the goddess of love, beauty and fertil- ity, and the daisy is Freya’s sacred flower. Iris symbolizes faith, promise, passion and more. Its mythology goes back to ancient Greece, when the Iris was the Goddess of the rainbow, the link between heaven and earth. Lily of the Valley Narcissus, which includes daf- fodils, jonquils and paperwhites, are declarations of love that prom- ise faithfulness and ensure happi- ness. But do not include only one – for example, a single daffodil rep- resents misfortune! Stock (also known as gilly- flower or Virginia stock) symbol- izes a happy life and says, “You will always be beautiful to me.” It also has a sweet fragrance, making it a very nice flower to give and re- ceive. Violets signify loyalty, devo- tion and faithfulness. For these reasons, violets are often sent to commemorate a couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. Love and Longing Pink camellias say, “I’m long- ing for you.” Red camellias announce, “You’re a flame in my heart.” Carnations date back more than 2,000 years and have a long history of symbolism.
