STARTUPS : STARTUP SMACKDOWN

IT ’ S NO SECRET THAT WE HERE AT THIRD WAVE FASHION LOVE NEW YORK . ( IT IS OUR HOMETOWN , AFTER ALL .)

!

Part of the reason why we love it here is that there are so many creative ways to make a living , and so many different ways to dress while you do it .

!

According to Reza Chowdhury , CEO and Founder of AlleyWatch ( featured in our You Should Know story on page 71 ), New York has always been a place that fosters diversity , not only in its people , but in its ideas too . And in the world of fashion tech , an industry that married two markets that were seemingly at odds , New York continues to embrace the new , push the envelope and compete directly with the ideas coming from the West Coast and elsewhere .

!

In the first of our STARTUP SMACKDOWN series , we took a look at NYC ’ s Shoptiques , learning about the business , the style of the team members , the style the company embodies , and what these standout employees love most about their team and environment .

!

From descriptions ranging from “ eclectic ” to “ unique ,” the Shoptiques team unanimously agreed that the Shoptiques style is one that truly allows them to feel good about who they are . Their previous motto was , “ Be yourself . Be different .”– and it makes sense that the company would embody the idea . In their New York office , you can feel the radiance that comes from discovering a personal style and working with a team that respects each other .

!

In fact , Shoptiques ’ CTO Raja Kapur told us that one of the best parts about working at Shoptiques is that there is virtually no conformity . In the city that breathes fashion , every person brings something new and different , which is not only refreshing , but also encourages others in the office to experiment with the style perspectives that they bring to the table .
