LO STAGNONE,
SICILY
THE LOWDOWN
On the westernmost part of Sicily, as part of a very picturesque
nature reserve, sits the resort of Lo Stagnone, perfectly positioned
on the shores of a large, sandy and shallow flat-water lagoon. It’s
ideal for learners, and with a multitude of little islands on
the farther reaches of the lagoon, it’s ideal for advanced riders
too, with plenty of exploring to be done through the salt pans and
salina walls. Winds are steady all year, and the air and water
temperatures are generally pretty high…
KITING SET UP
Lo Stagnone is situated halfway between the cities of Marsala
and Trapani (the latter having the closest airport). ProKite Alby
Rondina – the main kite school in Lo Stagnone – sits on the lagoon,
is open all year round, and has ample space to launch and land,
right on the beach. There is also a grassy, spacious beginner’s
area close by too, which is perfect for those just starting out.
The lagoon itself is huge, enjoys reliable wind conditions, and
has plenty of alternative accommodation options nearby.
