The highlights
Between July and September the wind
in Le Morne is reliably consistent.
There are also two centers to choose
from – one on the beach at the lagoon
and one at the hotel at the St. Regis
which offers a VIP Prestige service.
They also offer a rescue boat service
for wave sailors who want to feel more
secure. The hotels are located within
walking distance of the kitesurfing
area and non-kiting family and friends
can get an eyeful of the action right
from the beach.
Where to stay:
The St. Regis Mauritius is located
right next to the main kitesurf
beach. During the windy season, this
fantastic 5-star luxury resort offers
amazing special offers with Planet
Kitesurf Holidays, including free
room upgrades, free upgrades to all-
inclusive, free massages and more,
making it more affordable than you
might think.
Top tip:
The beginner’s lagoon can get pretty
busy during the peak months of August
and September. If you really want
to progress quickly, away from the
crowds, book the VIP Prestige service
with ION Club at the St. Regis and
enjoy a boat transfer out to a quiet
sandbank in the lagoon where you can
kitesurf without anyone else around.
You will also benefit from your own
private instructor and the services
of a boat which will take you upwind
again after a good run.
to enjoy really made for a fantastic
kiting experience.
Who’s it for?
This being Mauritius’s windy coastline,
the season in Belle Mare extends
virtually all year round. Freestylers
will love this spot, with a wide flat
water lagoon where you can practice
your tricks. With KiteGlobing’s boat
on hand, beginners are also ensured
fast progression.
BELLE MARE
The wind thumps the eastern coastline
of Mauritius, making me a bit nervous
when I headed out for a morning
kitesurf at Belle Mare. The rain was
also coming in with light squalls,
bringing with it some strong gusts…
however I vowed not to let the weather
put me off, and I am glad I did. While
the bad weather meant there was no
one else on the water the day I went
out, I quickly discovered during the
days I was there that this is not a
place that ever really gets too busy.
With fewer people on the water, the
KiteGlobing center at Belle Mare can
really offer personalized attention
and they use a boat in all their
beginner’s lessons so that you can
get out beyond the small fishing boats
strung up near the shoreline. Being
able to progress quickly in a lagoon
in which I was completely on my own
