Hold on to the Promise !

Writer : Joan Wright- Good
In Exodus 2 , a Levite woman married a Levite and became pregnant , she gave birth to a son . When she saw that he was a fine child , she hid him for three months . But when she could hide him no longer , she got a basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch . Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile . His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him . Then Pharaoh ’ s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe , and her attendants were walking along the riverbank . She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it . She opened it and saw the baby . He was crying , and she felt sorry for him . “ This is one of the Hebrew babies ,” she said . Then his sister asked Pharaoh ’ s daughter , “ Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you ?” Then they went and got his mother to nurse him .
This was the story of Moses .
I recently unpacked this story and preached on this woman of virtue because many people share the story of Moses but has never shared about his mother , Jochebed . I often wonder what Jochebed must have felt like after going through hours of labor to birth her baby only to hide him for three ( 3 ) months . So while other mothers showed off their babies she had to hide her “ promise ”. You see , Moses was a promise child , he was the deliverer who would set God ’ s people , the Israelites free from Egypt ’ s system of slavery . But King Pharaoh had sent out a decree to kill all baby boys born in that era so his mother had to hide him .
What is that promise that God gave you that the enemy has sent out a decree to kill ? I want to encourage you today , don ’ t lose hope , hold on to your promise , hide that word in your heart . I promise you , if you hide the promise He will make the very enemy who sought to annihilate you , bless you . Moses was raised by the same man who wanted to kill him , he was raised as royalty , he was schooled by the best and grew up next in line for the throne . Joseph in Genesis 50 told his brothers , “ you meant it for evil but God meant it for my good ”. You don ’ t have to fight what God has already won !
Do not let anyone speak negatively over your promise you must guard it with all that is within you . Surround yourself with other promise keepers who can help you pray over , and nurture your promise . You don ’ t need everybody with you because , while some people were called to your past and your present they may not be called to your future , so break the tradition of soul ties that does not serve your purpose . It ’ s not time to be surrounded with high opinion but low committed people .
So the next time you feel to prematurely boast about a promise God gave you , WAIT !!! patiently ( Not everything good fi eat good fi talk ). Hold on to your promise , hide that promise but be prepared to let it go when God says so , if Jochebed hadn ’ t muster up the courage to let Moses down the river , Pharoah ’ s daughter would not have found him , and his enemy would not have become his footstool .
Do not fall away or compromise who you are in Christ , God wants to make your name great , He want ’ s when people come in contact with you , like Moses , the bondage they struggle with , they ’ ll be delivered and set free !
Get back in position and hold on to the promise !
