Were there any challenges with you getting to be a part of
the accessories week?
To participate in the accessories week, designs had to be sub-
mitted which would determine our participation. There were
no challenges with doing that. At the time when I applied for
the accessories show, I had not yet found a full time job, so I
had spent money from my savings to purchase beads to make
the jewelry pieces. This was a big risk for me because it was
pricey to purchase the beads, I was not working, and I did not
know how much longer I would have been unemployed. I took
the risk hoping that I would be employed soon enough. This
experience really reinforced the importance of saving. I was
always a saver, so while this was a risk, it also reassured me
that I had done the right thing over the years by saving from
every pay check.
Any struggles?
I do work full time, while managing Tenique Designs, I have
yet to take that risk of jumping full time into my entrepreneurial
