MR RUSSELL MURPHY

he AGM saw Mr Russell Murphy elected
as a Life Member of The Royal Prince
Alfred Yacht Club as of 25 July, 2017.
Russell’s extensive commitment to the
Club began when he joined as a member
in 1988. In 1997 he commenced a long and ongoing list
of significant Committee roles including:
• Finance Committee 1997 – overview financing
for replacement Marinas and clearance of
associated debt;
• Director 2001-2004/ Chairman 2003/04;
• Vice Commodore House 2005;
• Vice Commodore Yacht Racing 2006/07;
• Commodore 2008/09/10;
• Board/Flag Roles;
• Coffs Organising Committee Liaison;
• Discipline Committee Chair;
• Human Resources Committee (Chair);
• Membership Board Liaison;

• Archives Committee; and
• Training Committee.
Currently Russell still serves the Clubs interests on:
• Membership/Election Committee + Yacht Race
liaison;
• Go Sailing Promotion – instigated this promotion;
and
• Sail Expo Coordinator of Volunteers.
Russell has been instrumental in promoting Youth in
the sport including two crews to World Championship
campaigns in his Etchells and was at the forefront of
the constitutional change to adopt family membership,
which continues to yield positive benefits to the Club.
Russell has always been a strong promoter of the
value of Club membership and taking measures he
thought best to promote and protect the Club’s interests,
notwithstanding the personal cost.
