MELGES RPAYC ONE DESIGN MID-WINTER SERIES
The regatta included a small but competitive fleet of Melges boats including John Newman Penultimate Challenge travelling from Melbourne , Dave Young ’ s Lake Macquarie team on his new boat Kraken , Andy Wharton AccrewedInterest and Harley Walters + GST .
The winter weather provided light conditions and tricky shifts . Differences in the results were determined by downwind tactics . The Victorians ’ Penultimate Challenge raced consistently well with their results including two firsts and two second places , Andy Wharton ’ s AccrewedInterest also picking up two first places by the end of day one .
Wharton is in pre-season preparation purchasing new sails and recently upgrading his boat . Melges Australia class stalwart and International Corinthian Champion Kevin Nixon shared his knowledge on board Accrewedinterest on day one and Al Pratt is filling his shoes on day two .
Melges 20 Big Booty skippered by Matt Crawford also mixed it up in the fleet . Looking forward to seeing all the Melges classes at the Melges East Coast Championships RPAYC later in the year .
