DICKO CUP

AN EXCELLENT EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

On a blustery Saturday morning five boats fronted up to the start to contest the Dicko Cup . Nine boats had entered but the previous day had been abysmal weather wise and more of the same was predicted for the Saturday , however it turned out to be a beautiful sailing day . The start boat was run by Ron Palmer , Elaine Fowler and Wendy Kay and the fleet got off to a clear start .

There was drama before reaching Lion Island with Pretty Woman on the radio reporting a crew injury and returning to Palm Beach for medical attention . This was all subsequently resolved in a positive way and Pretty Woman continued to Hallett ’ s Beach .
XS Moment received line honours , however , Arawai won the handicap sailed by husband and wife team Geoff and Debbie Molesworth . In the true spirit of the Dicko cup , Still Dangerous was second on handicap . All boats after presentation settled down for drinks on the beach and continued the adventures of the day avoiding an angry goanna who was determined to claim the beach for himself . Ron Palmer did a great job ferrying people to and from the beach upon demand and was well supported by Elaine and Wendy who looked after the social side .
Day 2 was calm with winds of about four knots , only two boats fronted up for the start , Arawai and Still Dangerous . After the start in a light south easterly , Still Dangerous had a lead going around Lion Island but Arawai showed great courage taking a short cut across the northern and eastern part of the shore and started to catch up . The course was shortened to Mackerel Beach and finally Arawai after a valiant effort sailed into a hole and stopped dead , leaving Still Dangerous to take line honours and the trophy .
This is an excellent event for the whole family and was well run by the race organisers , it deserves more support and hopefully next year we will see more entrants .
