Air New Zealand has taken out the title of Airline of the Year , for the fourth year in a row . The 2017 awards were generated by global product and safety website Airlineratings . com .
The website rates carriers on safety and in-flight experience , and ranks the top airlines overall . Judging classes fall under best cabins of each class , best entertainment , best catering , and best cabin crew worldwide . Airlineratings . com developed its seven-star ratings system after two years of evaluation . And now the system is endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organization . Air New Zealand was honoured by Airlineratings . com for its record-breaking financial performance , award-winning inflight innovations , operational safety , environmental leadership , and staff motivation .
The Awards
To gain a top ten position is tough . Airlines must have achieved a seven-star safety rating and demonstrated clear leadership in innovation for passenger comfort . Air New Zealand came out number one in virtually all of the awards audit criteria . An exceptional performance , especially given Air New Zealands location and the country ’ s size . The airline also took the top gong for best premium economy class for the fourth time in a row . This is in a year following investment by the airline in a streamlined and refurbished fleet , a multimillion-dollar lounge redevelopment , and three new international routes .
The Staff
Air New Zealand came up on top for its products , environmental commitment , innovation and most importantly — internal culture . The airlines employees consistently turn up every day , with a great attitude and passion for their job that flows through the system . The Innovations
The airline was praised at the awards for its revolutions in practical innovations , such as Airband . Airband is a bracelet for unaccompanied minors that allows parents to follow their childs journey . The tracking device is scanned by staff and a text message is sent when their child is boarding . Once the flight has landed and they ' ve met their designated pick-up person , their parents receive another message . An outstanding innovation setting parent ’ s minds at ease , and the airline apart from the rest .
Air New Zealand remains an industry leader and a textbook case of what an airline should be in todays intensely competitive market . The award comes after the airline celebrated its 75th anniversary last year , an amazing feat all of its own .
