Signs – Apart of the design process?
Signsforsafety – protecting people and property
Why are the James Bond (JB) films so popular? Well
apart from JB himself, the films offer the viewer a
brief submergence into a world of sophistication and
glamour. Today, we are fortunate that many of our
architects and designers, create spaces of style and
luxury, when designing for the hospitality sector. But
while creating these inspirational interiors, it is always
smart to remember the safety aspect for the control
and movement of people throughout buildings. There
must be nothing worst for designers, to see their
creations ruined by someone “slapping” on a few safety
signs, after the event! If signage becomes part of the
design process, this could alleviate this mishap.
In its basic form “the sign” tells you what you can do
and what you can’t do, where to go, where not to go
and where you are and where you might be. But is this
good enough? If you don’t understand the words or
they are too small or it’s dark or hidden by smoke or
not installed correctly or gone missing, these are issues
that Signs for Safety.co.uk have to address.
Signsforsafety.co.uk adhere firmly to legislative
requirements, including BS ISO 3864 and BS EN ISO
7010, which are the benchmarks of our industry. Our
SignsforSafety Book is an invaluable guide, enabling
our clients to make informed choices concerning their
signage. The book is available f.o.c from our website.
We produce good quality signage at reasonable
prices (mainly due to our in-house capabilities and
skill to manufacture on our own substrates here in
the UK). Unlike most other signage suppliers, we
carry extensive stock to meet nationwide delivery
requirements, as well as having a department
dedicated to bespoke signage and projects.
However a “big feather in our cap” is we are strong
advocates of photoluminescent (glow in the dark)
signage. Our photoluminescent material TelglowTM,
properly energized, will provide illumination for up
to 18 hours and creates a new vision of direction and
spacecial awareness to improve safety way guidance
systems in darkness and smoky conditions.

The material is self-charging from ambient light,
requires no installation wiring, reducing the need for
emergency lighting and has little or no maintenance.
Architects and designers will find the multi-coloured,
high quality PVC products produced by our Telegan
Pressed Products Ltd company provides coordinated
colours to frame and protect signage and way guidance
products – plus gives “zazz” to the building.
After 9/11 the New York Building Code updated to
reflect the IBC codes, actively encourages the use of
photoluminescent materials for exit pathways, signage
and use in stairwells and as they say “what happens in
the US” tends to filter through to the UK – so watch
this space!
