The summer is over and the
golf course was favored with
some fine weather and a small
increase in the number of golfers playing the course. While
that meant a slight increase in income, there were many offsetting
factors that also came into play.
First, all of us owe a big thank
you to the maintenance and Pro
Shop staffs. The maintenance
crew starts early on summer
days, between 5 and 6 am, to get
the course ready for those golfers playing as the course opens.
even more demanding is the
hours the Pro Shop staff works.
The shop is staffed from 7 am
until closing (around 9:30 pm)
seven days a week – totaling over
100 hours each week, often with
more than one employee. They
were responsive and spent many
hours to make the golf experience as positive as they could for

every one of our customers. Our
employees, under the direction of
Chris Bensel and Mary Rock,
were very effective. Their work
is very much appreciated.
Our nice dry weather also increased the amount of irrigation
water needed to keep the golf
course in playing condition. The
extra charge the golf course paid
for water this summer totaled
more than $25,000. It was money
well spent according to feedback
received from so many golfers
when talking about the condition
of the course this season.
This was the summer for painting the Pro Shop and the CCC
Clubhouse. In preparing for the
painting, dry rot was discovered.
Sadly, that unearthing led to a
lot more dry rot being found. It
was on all sides of the Pro Shop
and the back deck. The problem
has been getting worse over time,
and it was necessary that it be
corrected this year. As the deck
was removed, there was a concern that just replacing the deck
would cause a recurrence of the
problem. Several solutions were
considered. The final choice was
to maintain a walkway with a
railing. This would be less costly
and still allow access to the member lounge from the outside. Bottom line? The repair work for dry
rot and deck repair will total over
$35,000 once finished.
To sum up the summer, business was good, but there were
some financial surprises that will
not allow the Golf Club to establish the expected reserves for the
winter. I would like to thank the
Board of Directors and the officers for the hard work they put in
to keep things moving forward.
Now that we are in our off
season, I would like to welcome
suggestions from the community regarding utilizing the golf
course during slower times. The
walking program has had a few
participants, and there has been
a request to consider bicycle riding on the carts paths at appropriate times. These and other ideas
you suggest will be considered.

Get out your rain gear and prepare to play some winter golf. It
is a great time to play because
there are fewer golfers, you can
usually play more quickly and the
fresh air can be invigorating.
