“If Our Quilts Could Talk” - Family Stories of the Old Aurora Colony Quilts

Does your old family quilt
have tale worth telling?
“If Our Quilts Could Talk:
Stories of the Old Aurora Colony
Quilts,” a retelling of some of
the stories behind the Old Aurora
Colony quilts, will be performed
on October 12 at 5 pm at the Old
Aurora Colony Museum. This
special evening of “vignettes,”
created around five of the historic
Colony quilts, will be a highlight
at the Old Aurora Colony Museum’s quilt show: “Celebrating
Our Golden Memories,” which
runs October 11-20.
Over time, many Aurora Colony descendants have loaned or
donated beautiful family quilts
to be displayed at the Museum.
When you go to the quilt show,
your eyes will feast on dozens of
these rare treasures. Those exhibits alone are worth the $6 price of
admission.
Thanks to the thoughtful donations from quilters with too much
“quilt stash,” other quilters and
crafters will be able to stock up
on fat quarters, threads, quilt patterns, craft and quilt books and
vintage textiles at the Colony
Store - all at great prices! And,
if you don’t want to make your
own quilt, you can purchase raf-
fle tickets for a chance to win the
Old Aurora Colony Museum’s
“Golden Memories” quilt. This
quilt, as well as all the other raffle
quilts, have been created from
quilt blocks donated by women of
the community and then carefully crafted by the Aurora Colony
Quilters who meet every Tuesday
morning at the museum to practice their craft. All of their creations are exceptional.
Some years ago, my wife, Ann,
was really taken by that year’s
American-themed raffle quilt. To
her surprise, she had the winning
raffle ticket; and the quilt now has
its special place of honor on the
bed in our guest bedroom. It is a
family treasure.
As avid history buffs, Ann and
I are looking forward to learning
more about the history behind the
quilts. The “If Our Quilts Could
Talk” performance on October
12 will be an entertaining look
at colony women from the 1800s
as they practiced their quilting
craft. At $20 per person, the performance ticket is also good for
admission to the Quilt Show - a
real value. Seating is limited for
the one night performance on October 12, so I suggest you call the

Reg Keddie gears up for the Aurora Colony Quilt Show, that runs

about 2013 being the 50th anniversary of the Aurora Colony
Historical Society. It has been my

Society during this pivotal year in
the Historical Society’s history. I
