The Charbonneau Villager Page 9 November 2013 How Sweet It Is! The Oregon State University College of Agricultural Science, Dean Dan Arp, addressed the NWREC Friends at the recent Harvest Dinner. Harvest Dinner Features Taste of OSU The North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC) hosted its annual harvest dinner in late September as a thank you to their Friends - financial contributors and program supporters. The event was A Taste of OSU, with all of the foods having a connection to the University, their research and educational programs and the local farmers they work with. “This was a fun event,” said Mike Bondi, NWREC’s Director. “It’s important to say ‘thank you’ to all of those who make our operation successful.” The dinner featured appetizers with the new OSU Beaver Classic alpine cheese - manufactured at Oregon State University as a student hands-on experience teaching principles of Bob Lytle Sheet Metal Specializing in Gutters and Downspouts. The menu and food were prepared by Bon Appetite Catering, located at George Fox University in Newberg. During the past year, the Friends of NWREC - a member organization supporting the Research Center - have contributed more than $30,000 in cash donations, supplies and services to further the mission of the agricultural experimental farm. “Everyone is welcome to join our Friends group at NWREC,” said Bondi. “We all appreciate the food and fiber the local farmers provide. Becoming a Friend is a great way to show your support.” For more information, contact Bondi at [email protected]. Annually, the group includes one Over Niter as part of their seasonal package. This year's experience was enlarged to a twonight stay in Central Oregon at Sunriver, thanks to the generosity of two long-term golfing friends, Dick Hansen and Jean Brault plus, of course, that of their most gracious wives, Jean and Kathy. The event organizers were Dick Hansen (housing), Jerry Zeller (golfing) and Cliff Wilcox (food procurer and master chef). Learning earlier this year that the Charbonneau Tennis Club promotes wearing Charbonneau LOGO gear for all off-campus events, the Sweet 16 adopted the practice, believing advertising is good for our home club. It was team play, with scores based on individual low gross and low net for each hole. Captain Tom Taylor’s team of Bill Johnson, Chuck Brandstrom and Ron Leeper won 1st place with 139. Captain Jerry Olson’s team, which included Pete Swan, Cliff Wilcox and Dick Hansen, scored 140 to take 2nd.
