Rotary Awareness
Month
January is rotary Awareness
month. Throughout the year, rotary members help to make Wilsonville the best town in Oregon.
During the winter, we hold omelet
breakfasts to raise money for our
schools. We also accept nominations for Wilsonville’s First
Citizen, which is awarded at our
annual Heart of Gold dinner/auction on march 15. if you know
a Wilsonville citizen who is doing outstanding volunteer work in
the community, let us know. See
below for more information. in
July/August we host the summer
concert series and raise money
to eradicate polio. We also help
inmates and their families bond
at the Coffee Creek Correctional
Facility bar-b-q and fair. Wilsonville High School seniors are chosen to receive scholarships to help
with college tuitions. in the fall,
we have been supporting Chess
for Success in Wilsonville middle
schools. And, throughout the year
we sponsor the local boy Scout
Troop. if you would like to learn

Our lunch meetings are held
every Thursday starting at noon
at the Al Kader Shrine Center in
Wilsonville. Come join us to hear

Jan. 9: Rich Truitt, board chair,
Wilsonville Community Services,
will talk about “now and the Future.”
Jan. 16: Wim Wievel, president, Portland State University,
will talk about “Access to Excellence - PSU and the metropolitan
Area.”
Jan. 23: The topic is biz Town/
Finance Park - Junior Achievement programs. Details to follow.
First Citizen and
Treasures of Wilsonville
Banquet
rotary's First Citizen award
will be announced at the 'Treasures of Wilsonville' themed 2014
Heart of Gold Celebration.
Wilsonville has many treasures. but, the community’s greatest treasure would have to be its
active, committed and passionate
volunteers.
The rotary's annual awards
banquet serves to recognize local
volunteers, including one individual or couple who will be chosen
as the 2013 Wilsonville First Citizen.
nominations for the Wilsonville First Citizen award are now
being accepted. To submit yours,

nominations are due January
15, 2014. A selection committee
will then select a group of 4 to 5
finalists and, ultimately, the next
Wilsonville First Citizen. The finalists will be announced in late
January, and all will be honored
at Treasures of Wilsonville: The
13th Annual Heart of Gold Celebration.
At the 2013 Heart of Gold Celebration, Jay Puppo was honored.
Prior winners include Charbonneau's Dick Spence, Debi Laue,
Lonnie and Julie Gieber, Theonie Gilmore, Anne Easterly,
Ron Anderson, Charbonneau's
Bob and Judy Woodle, Charbonneau's Alan Kirk, Doris Wehler, Sue Ludlow, John Ludlow,
Charlotte Lehan and Dr. Laura
LaJoie Bishop.
Treasures of Wilsonville: The
2014 Heart of Gold Celebration
will be held Saturday, march 15,
2014 at the Wilsonville Holiday
inn, 25425 S.W. 95th Ave., Wilsonville. That night, the next First
Citizen will be revealed. in addition, a silent auction and live auc-
tion will be held. Proceeds will go
to support local and international
service projects of the Wilsonville
rotary Foundation. Tickets to the
event are on sale now for $50
each or $400 for a table of eight.

Sweet 16 Host Pre-Holiday Lunch

Each year, the Sweet 16 golf
group plans four winter lunches.
The kick-off in December was
at Springridge. This year, the
group heard a real Christmas
story from one of its members,
Vern Pearson. His brother-inlaw, who owns a highly seasonal
business that is peaking now, had
back surgery and Vern is running
the business … a genuine opportunity to pay-it-forward for his
recently-deceased sister. Sweet
16 members listening to the story
were the beneficiaries of the business, each receiving a freshly
decorated holiday wreath. Extras were left for the Springridge
residents.
Fifteen golfers attended and
began stepping up for volunteer
responsibilities in 2014.
Tom Taylor, assistant commissioner, presented a golf bag
medal to Cliff Wilcox, recognizing his evidenced prowess as
a Chef at the groups 2013 Over
niter in Sunriver.
Then, the Commish, recognized two of the long-time Sweet
16 members who recently published new books:
Peter Swan has published
Past Due, a mystery introducing rick Conwright, private investigator, and based in our own
greater Portland area.
Ian MacMillan's Golfing in
the Village of Charbonneau The creation and survival of a
golf course is now available online at inkwater Press books. it
talks about our own beloved golf
course.
both authors discussed their
books, experiences and writing processes. both books are
available from the usual sources.
However, if you purchase one of
the books from the Pro Shop, a
portion of the proceeds support
the Charbonneau Golf Club.
