Re: The Charbonneau Men’s
Golf Club, the CWGA and the
Niners Scholarship Committee
Thank you so very much for selecting me as one of your scholarship recipients.
I am a sophomore at Concordia
University, majoring in education,
and I will be using the money for
my college expenses.
I started playing golf when I
was six years old in the Charbonneau Junior Golf Program and also
received lessons from my grandfather, Rick Sawyer. I remained enrolled in the Junior Golf Program
until I started helping as a junior
coach in my freshman year in high
school and have continued as a junior coach up until last summer.
I played on the Wilsonville High
School Varsity Golf Team and currently play golf for the Concordia
Men’s Golf Team.
I started working as a range boy
for the golf course a few weeks
before my fifteenth birthday and,
as of April, 2014 when I turn 20, I
will have worked at Charbonneau
Golf Course for six years. During this time frame, I have met
so many wonderful residents. I
want to thank all of you, including
Chris Bensel, for all your support
and concern for me all these years.

the group compiled a wish list
of things that needed updating,
including: draperies (the current
ones were replaced 15 years ago),
carpet (replaced 15 years ago)
and cabinets and countertops (replaced 22 years ago). Then, they
looked at the variety of uses for
the facility and how it is currently
functioning. They found the lack
of storage space and the facility’s
outdated look to be most important. Some areas, like the small
nook off the dining room, weren’t
being utilized very well. Also,
they felt the colors needed to be
more neutral. The group decided to remain with a green color
palette but has selected a more
peaceful green they feel enhances
the golf course view and supports
the ambience of the community.
Considerations had to be made
for the variety of residents’ ages
and mobility needs. For example,
walk off mats near each entry will
be integrated into the carpet eliminating tripping hazards.
As many items as possible
are being refurbished or utilized.
For new items, Kathy researched
materials and brought several
samples of each item the commit-
tee needed to look at to meetings.
The group also typically got three
bids for work that had to be contracted out. Every item was discussed and voted on by the Committee.
“When we’re finished with
this project, the Clubhouse will
be more functional and more aesthetically pleasing - keeping with
the French country look,” said
Kathy.
The CCC Board approved
$120,000 for the project, and the
money is coming from the Country Club’s Reserve Fund. This
means that the money has already
been planned for and allotted for
this use. The cost of these renovations are less than they were
previously, in part, because as
a CCC board member, Kathy is
volunteering her interior design
expertise rather than hiring an
outside designer.
“The Committee really wanted
to spend the money locally, and
we looked for the best value for
the best price - as well as reputable, local companies,” Kathy said.

Mike Richmond for vinyl and
carpet flooring. Other contractors
have come from the Metro area
and most have worked with the
CCC before on other projects.
“We’re looking forward to the
fresh, updated look our Clubhouse has needed for some time
now,” said CCC President Gene
Pronovost.
