End of 2013 Finalizes Colony's 50th Anniversary
Gifts to the Colony
Exhibits for 2013
• A spinning song composed by a daughter of Dr. Wilhelm Keil.
• Elegant dinnerware from
the table of a German merchant
who also served as a consular for
the Austria-Hungary government.
• A rare stone bowl attributed to the Kalapuya (Calapooia)
Tribes.
• A sturdy and handsome
headboard representing the marriage of a hardy and handsome
pioneer couple.
In addition to these wonderful personal family mementos
and historical artifacts, this year’s
“Gifts To The Colony 2013” exhibit is a study in the rise of fortunes among some of the Aurora
Colony families and their descendants. This annual exhibit is curated each year as a special thank
you to the generosity of many
Aurora Colony descendants and
other friends of the Old Aurora
Colony Museum. The exhibit will
run from November 9 through
December 31. Museum hours are
11 am to 4 pm, Tuesdays through
Saturday, and noon to 4 pm on
Sundays. The Museum will be
closed Thanksgiving and Christmas days.
Emma is dropping in for
two visits - or at least
Emma in spirit!
First, Jane Kirkpatrick will
be introducing Emma of Aurora
to her Oregon “Emma” fans on
Sunday, November 24 at the Old
Aurora Colony Museum. Emma
of Aurora has been published as
a one-volume, unabridged edition
of Jane’s three-book “Change and
Cherish” series featuring Emma
Wagner Giesy. Thanks to the
deft story-telling of Ms. Kirkpatrick, the spirit of Emma Wagner
Giesy - one of the historic figures
of the original Aurora Colony lives on almost 100 years after
her death. Jane will be signing
copies of Emma of Aurora between noon and 4 pm at the Old
Aurora Colony Museum. Emma
of Aurora is available at the Museum along with many other Jane
Kirkpatrick titles and other books
on Old Aurora and Oregon history
and travel. Museum admission is
required.
Ghosts of Christmas’
Past
On Saturday, December 7, the
Museum’s annual Candlelight
Tour will take on a special glow
with five skits that will feature
the happy and tragic stories of the
women behind the famous quilts
of the Old Aurora Colony - including a quilt made by Emma
Wagner Giesy. The Tour and performances will begin in the Old
Aurora Colony Museum at 4:30
pm, with groups of 12 starting
their tours every fifteen minutes.
Because of attendance is “standing room only,” you are encouraged to order your tickets today!

The Candlelight Tour is the last
event of 2013 - the 50th anniversary of the Aurora Colony Historical Society, founded in 1963.
All event proceeds benefit the Old
Aurora Colony Museum exhibits
and ongoing historical research.
