A yearlong celebration ensued that year to celebrate Waxhaw’s 100th birthday and with it the birth of parades that give residents a glimpse at our past and a slice of old-fashioned Americana and Norman Rockwell flair. At the time of its incorporation on March 7, 1889, the corporate limits of the Town extended one-half mile each way from the depot of the Georgia, Carolina and Northern Railway with the depot at the center which was located at the present intersection of North Church Street and South West Main Street (Highway 75). The officers of the Town consisted of a Mayor, three Town of Waxhaw NC commissioners, a marshal and a cotton-weigher for the Town. The railroad, agriculture, and the cotton mill were the major influences on Waxhaw’s growth and it has long been a purpose to preserve our proud agricultural and railroad heritage while embracing a passion for the future vision of the Town. The Waxhaw Independence Day Celebration complete with parade, beach party and fireworks will take place on Saturday July 2nd. **Parking is available at the BB&T parking lot, the grass lot on the corner of Blythe Mill Road and Highway 16, and any public parking lot downtown. After the fireworks, Waxhaw police will enforce a Right Turn Only rule exiting the parking lots.** @TownofWaxhaw Town of Waxhaw NC
