of Tennessee A ntiquities
Sticks & Stories from the Graves

T
he Arlington APTA invites
everyone to Sticks & Stories
from the Graves at Holy In-
nocents Cemetery, 11915 Campbell
(at Polk) on Saturday, April 4, 4pm.
After picking up sticks, everyone
will enjoy the portrayal of a few
historic Arlington residents, fol-
lowed by lemonade and cookies.
Grab the kids and lawn chairs for
this FREE event!
Holy Innocents Cemetery dates
to 1881 with around 15 families
interred at the historical cemetery.
Th e Cemetery Church was built
2017, as a replica of the original
church built in 1884. After exten-
sive research of other historic sites
across the country, the Arlington
Chapter of the Association for the
Preservation of Tennessee Antiq-
uities (APTA) chose the beautiful
open-air structure. Th is type of
structure allows visitors to get a
“feel” for the original church’s
design yet provides easy access
and little maintenance. Th e late
Sam T. Wilson stored the windows
from the original church for many
years. Later, a talented Arling-
ton resident restored the window
frames for use. As a chapel, it
can be used for small weddings,
showers, teas, prayer services, etc.
with the gardens to the east of the
church providing quiet respite.
On a pleasant day, the best place
to walk or read a book is Holy In-
nocents Cemetery!
APTA’s mission is to promote
and encourage active participation
in the preservation of Tennessee’s
rich historic, cultural, architectural
and archeological heritage through
restoration, education, advocacy
and statewide cooperation. New
members are always welcome. Dues
are $15 annually, and the member-
ship card grants free admission to
all APTA sites. For more info, visit
