The Big Surprise

By Laura R.

With the wait finally over, the band walks out on stage. The crowd erupts with joy. After counting down the days, everyone is excitedly in their seats as One Direction begins to sing.

During the last week of summer, I was surprised with an astounding gift: I was going to the One Direction concert with my cousin! I had always been a fan of the band, but I had never seen them play live. My cousin was coming up from Virginia to see the band play for third time! The night before the concert we found out that one of the members of the band, Harry Styles, was eating at Campus Corner at Villanova! My cousin, being the avid fan she is, insisted that we go. We begged and begged but no one would take us given that it was 9 o’clock, 25 minutes away, and he would either be long gone before we got there or swarmed by desperate fans trying to catch a glimpse of their idol, so we waited patiently until the next day.

The morning of the concert was a school day so I had to sit through 8 grueling periods of waiting and waiting. My cousin’s school had not begun yet and she was staying at my house, so she spent the day at the mall. After school I quickly finished my homework, and then got ready so we could get to Philadelphia in time and beat the traffic. My dad drove my cousin, my aunt, and I downtown to the Lincoln Financial Field. Once he dropped us off, we walked into the packed stadium. The excitement in the air was tangible. We bought our t-shirts and made our way to our seats. After the opening acts performed a bunch of wonderful songs the crowd was restless, waiting eagerly for the featured band to come on. They finally walked onto to the stage and we knew the concert was finally starting. One Direction began with their opening song, Drag Me Down, and the crowd went crazy. The rest of the concert was filled with slow songs, upbeat songs, crowd favorites, and lots of screaming fans. Some of my favorites were Rock Me, Steal My Girl, and 18. The concert was amazing and One Direction put on an outstanding show.

Practically the entire stadium sang along to every song that night. Many left the stadium a more die-heart fan then when they entered. I certainly became a bigger “Directioner” that night, and I will never forget that incredible concert.
