"Simon, look, we don’t have time, okay?

"Many of our people are dying because of your people. We've been trying to

increase the people we bring up to the surface, but now we are under a time crunch. If this keeps happening, our people will perish, you understand?"

"I'm just saying, everything your leader said sounded exactly the same as what I've been told. I don't know, but are we sure anyone isn't just looking for power anymore?"

"As much as I'd like to believe everything is a conspiracy theory, Simon, this is real

life. Ok? So, let's keep moving and stop my people from dying."

"But think about it!" Simon persisted. "Look around at the people here! They look

he same as mine, brainwashed. No one is safe from corrupt people! Open your eyes, Sierra, look around! They don't care about your safety. You're a cog in a machine like I was. You really don't see it, do you?"

We reached the end of the camp, and ducked under the brush, into the open plains. I continued walking, a little faster this time, but Simon wasn't going to be left behind. "Simon, I don't think-"

"Sierra, come on. You have to believe-I mean, it's obvious that-"

Out of nowhere, a Demonite launched at Simon, biting off his leg in the process. I immediately ripped a tree limb from a tree and wacked the Demonite on its head. It snarled and dove backward as I grabbed my knife from my backpack. Dropping the bag, I lunged at the Demonite, stabbing it in the leg. It bared its teeth and then went for Simon, attacking his neck and causing his whole body to start oozing blood. I pulled it off of Simon, who was gasping for breath. It lunched off of me, grabbing my left arm and tearing it from the limb. I screamed in pain, falling backward and crying for help. The Demonite slunk back into the shadows. People from the base camp came running from the distance to help, but Simon had already died and I was going to die within a matter of seconds. They got there and stood around me in a circle. "Help." I whispered, screaming as more blood came out of my shoulders.

"There goes another one. Jeez. She really had faith in us too." Number one was saying.

"Sir, if you didn't send the scouts out to dangerous locations, if you just let their

society be and didn't bait people for them to use that were "going to turn", if you didn't alert the Demonite of their presence," someone said.

"But this one was being bribed by her assigned person. I had no choice. She was about to turn." Number one said.

Spots danced before my eyes, and I could feel myself growing weaker.

"I'll do what I have to do, 123, I would do it again to keep them from know that we-" I

blacked out, falling into the black sea that was death. Questions and thoughts slipped away from my grasp. The world faded and then- then there was nothing.

I really couldn't trust anyone.
