A Parent’s Executive Power

“Yeah right,” I spat. As I looked over at the imperious mountains and the endless canopy of trees, my will was not budging. My mother looked at me with a face full of disgust.

“Connor Robert don’t play around with me. You know who runs this house.”

“Give it a rest mom,” I replied, giving her no chance to present her argument. This issue was already resolved. I was not going down that zip line.

El Yunque park in Puerto Rico was a place of immense beauty and exotic wildlife. It captured all the natural beauty of the island in 44 miles of breathtaking peaks and raging waterfalls. The diverse wildlife and dazzling array of plants and multicolored flowers wowed anyone that visited it's tucked away location. Too bad I wouldn't see it.

“You are walking on thin ice. I will not be trifled with, mark my words,” my mother threatened with steely resolve. I peered back over the cliff, watching the scorching Puerto Rican sun melt the surrounding area. The zip line lasted for miles, stretching across the nearby low lying forest.
