2 IN THE DIOCESE June 20, 2017 | The Valley Catholic Appointments of Bishop Patrick J. McGrath APPOINTMENT Bishop Patrick J. McGrath has made the following appointment, eff ective July 1, 2017 Father Justin Le – Dean of Deanery Four Where Did the Year Go? Another summer has arrived in the Valley of Saint Clare and the Diocese of San Jose. It is true what they say, the older you get, the faster the time goes. And it really feels that way this year. I mean, it just seemed like yesterday that we were celebrating the joys of Advent and the birth of Christ and then rains of February came and now summer? Wow. I think we have been blessed in the Diocese this year. Sure, we’ve had bumps along the way. For us at the Chancery we are approaching the fi rst anniversary of the passing of our dear CFO Bob Serventi; someone we will never forget. We have been blessed to welcome Brian Mooney as CFO and are thankful for the gifts he is bringing to the Diocese. A couple of weeks ago, we shared in the ordination of two priests, Ga- briel Lee and Khoa Vu, and we recently marked the 60 th anniversary of the ordination of Bishop Emeritus Pierre DuMaine, the fi rst bishop of San Jose. And Holy Cross Parish, which suf- fered a fi re to the top of the church two- and-a-half years ago, is well on the path to rebuilding better than ever. I know there are many, many other wonderful stories of things happening throughout the Diocese. This is the fi nal issue of “The Val- ley Catholic” before the staff goes on summer break. However, while we won’t be publishing a newspaper, we will still be keeping an eye on what’s happening here and across the world in the Church. And working to make a better newspaper. To stay up-to-date with the happenings, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, along with the newspaper’s website – TVC.DSJ.org and the Diocesan website – www.DSJ.org. Deadline for the next issue is August 4, for the August 22 publication. We welcome your submis- sions to “The Valley Catholic.” You can send them directly to me at easullivan@ dsj.org and I will do my best to get them in the newspaper. We are a newspaper about the Diocese of San Jose and we want to hear what’s happening throughout our community. Also, feel free to email or call me (408) 983-0228. Here’s to a blessed Summer of 2017.
