Bishop Patrick J . McGrath has made the following appointments :
Father Jeff Joven Fernandez as Parochial Administrator pro tem of the Cathedral Basilica Parish of Saint Joseph in San Jose , effective January 1 – June 30 , 2018 .
Father Wilian Montalvo , IVE , as Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Santa Clara , effective January 17 , 2018 .
Dispensation from Abstinence for First Day of the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dog
Bishop Patrick J . McGrath has granted a dispensation from the Lenten discipline of abstinence from meat to all the faithful of the Diocese of San Jose who will be observing Friday , February 16 , the first day of the Asian New Year .

Community Outreach at the Chancery
Once again in 2017 , employees at the Chancery of the Diocese of San Jose opened their hearts to those less fortunate in our community .
Over three days in mid-December Chancery employees donated , gathered and delivered items to : 1 . Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph ( non-perishable food ); 2 . Saint Juan Diego Center ( baby / toddler necessities ) and 3 . Sacred Heart Community Center ( toys for children and clothing for children , teenagers and adults ).
The goal was to give each of the employees the opportunity to go the extra mile at Christmas to help those in need .

Faith Beyond 2000 is a dynamic formation program for catechists and others interested in gaining a better understanding of their faith . Monday Night Adult Bible Study - EPIC A Journey Through Church History January 22 @ 7 - 9 p . m ., Our Lady of Peace Church , 2800 Mission College Blvd ., Santa Clara . Discover the “ EPIC ” Story of the Catholic Church . As Catholics we are heirs to a remarkable heritage . The history of our Faith is so much more than a list of facts and dates . Musicians Master Classes January 25 @ 6 p . m . - Jan . 26 @ 4 p . m ., Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph , 80 S . Market St ., San Jose . This year our clinician for the English track is Tom Booth . The clinician for the Spanish track is Jaime Cortez . There is a new track for musicians who want to learn sight singing and music theory . This class is interactive with three different stations . The clinician teaching this class is Chris Wemp our new Director in the Office of Liturgy . The day will be full of singing new music , and learning how to be the best liturgical musician you can be . Friday evening is a concert free to the public featuring Tom Booth , Jaime Cortez and the composers of our Diocese . Please go to www . stjosephcathedral to register . Parenting from the Inside Out with Paul J . Kim January 28 @ Noon - 2:30 p . m ., Queen of Apostles Parish , 4911 Moorpark Ave ., San Jose . There is no such thing as a “ perfect family .” As rewarding as family life can be , each one has its share of struggles and problems . Negative patterns of behavior , both in individuals and in families , are bound to repeat themselves and pass on from generation to generation , if they are never dealt with in healthy ways . Though there are an abundance of parenting methods and tips available for people to learn , ultimately a person cannot give what they do not have . The more a parent is able to work towards resolving the issues in their own lives , the more they will be able to give of themselves to their children who learn from and depend on their example .
