DSJ seminar to focus on spirituality of Christian stewardship
The Diocese of San Jose Office of Stewardship and Development is sponsoring a Stewardship Seminar , Thurs ., May 2 , 8:30 am to 2:30 pm , at Our Lady of Refuge Parish , San Jose , to introduce parish leaders to the spirituality of Christian stewardship and provide information and resources .
The event begins with an optional Mass at 8:30 am , registration at 9 am , and the program begins at 10 am with an opening prayer . The seminar is cost free for attendees , and is sponsored by the Catholic Community Foundation of Santa Clara County .
Also provided will be an overview of the process and methods a parish can use to help foster better stewardship in
The St . Thomas More Society of Silicon Valley , an organization of Catholic attorneys and judges , is seeking nominations for its annual St . Thomas More Award .
Nominees should be members of the legal profession who have demonstrated a commitment to Catholic ideals and service to the community , parish and / or profession .
The nominee ’ s name and contact information and brief description of the parish and help parishioners live the Gospel call to stewardship more fully , explained Bill Matthews , Director of the diocesan office .
Guest speaker will be Jim Kelley , Director of Development for the Diocese of Charlotte , North Carolina , whose office manages the Diocesan Support Appeal and assists parishes with stewardship efforts and capital campaigns .
He is the author of “ Stewardship Manual : A Guide for Individuals and Parishes Developing Stewardship as a Way of Life ” and other publications of the International Catholic Stewardship Council ( ICSC ) and has served on that organization ’ s board and was its president , 2007 – 2011 .

DSJ contribution to Religious Retirement Fund goes up
Sister Rosalie Pizzo , SND , Bishop ’ s Delegate to Religious in the Diocese of San Jose , reports that contributions to the national Religious Retirement Fund went up by more than $ 32,000 this year with the amount of $ 193,806.54 sent to the national office .
Sister Rosalie , in a letter to local pastors , thanked them for their support of the collection .
Sister Janice Bader , CPPS , Executive Director of the National Religious Retirement Office , in a letter to Bishop Patrick J . McGrath , thanked the DSJ for its support . “ Your generosity surely
Individuals who have lost a loved one to violence are invited to a safe , supportive and confidential environment to share stories and to remember the loved one with others who want to share their journey of grief .
Sponsored by the Diocese of San Jose Office of Restorative Justice , “ It is a helps Religious address the many challenges they face as they age , but they continue to make an impact on our society ,” she wrote .
” Even as they age , their commitment to the ministry of their community , their prayer and spiritual life are vibrant testimony to the faithfulness they promised so many years ago . Your commitment to them is a heartfelt testimony to their faithfulness ,” she said .
Sister Bader noted that today there are over 34,000 Religious over the age of 70 years and increasing numbers will soon be retiring .
