ILM Class of 2013 to graduate May 1

On Wed ., May 1 , the Institute for Leadership in Ministry of the Diocese of San Jose will celebrate its 14th annual graduation honoring the Class of 2013 . The 47 graduates represent 26 parishes within the diocese .

Linda Cunha-Ricchio , ILM Director , said , “ The Class of 2013 is a gifted and dedicated group of individuals who have answered the call to ministry within their parishes . They now celebrate the completion of three years of theological , pastoral , and spiritual formation , as well as leadership development .”

The graduation takes place in the context of evening prayer . All are welcome to join the graduates at 7:30 pm in the Cathedral Basilica of San Jose . Auxiliary Bishop Thomas A , Daly will preside .

Diocese to implement new HRIS system

The Diocese of San Jose is in the process of implementing a new Human Resources Information System ( HRIS ) for its locations – 29 schools , 54 parishes , chancery offices , and Catholic Cemeteries .

The project began last year initially focusing on improving HR procedures and has moved forward to evaluating over 10 HRIS software systems to select the best one for implementation .

Bishop Patrick J . McGrath has called for this effort to improve HR practices . He said , “ I have been informed that we would see improved efficiencies in our employees by using proven technologies in this area . In addition , we will increase our ability to ensure that all managers receive the information they require to manage their employee information .”

He added , “ Like all businesses , the diocese is attempting to better manage increasingly complex labor law requirements . The new system will help to ensure that all employees receive compensation and benefits they are entitled to .”

Initial phase of the HRIS project will automate hiring of employees , time and attendance tracking , payroll , and management of HR information , with implementation planned for July 1 , 2013 .

Future phases will address adding applicant tracking , performance management , training planning and management , and improved employee management reporting .

“ Workday ” is the software selected by the diocese ; it is a Software as a Service ( SaaS ) solution . It will allow employees to manage their own information on-line and reduce paperwork .

their information so they know exactly what their pay is , when their W-2s are available , request time-off , and other employee services .”

Hope said that managers will be able to track all transactions from the time they are initiated until they are approved and updated in that all information is properly reviewed and improved before critical dates .

The HRIS Project Team , in addition to Hope , consists of employees of the diocese : Hilary Lansdon , HRIS manager ; Olivia Perez , Payroll ; Carlino Cecillio , consultant ; John Hoffman , Finance ; Jenette Jimenez , Benefits ; and Marc Wilson , Tamra Abell and Andrea Popovich , Human Resources .

The team also includes a large group of user representatives from parishes and schools . A Management Advisory Group meets regularly to review the project and includes chancery management , including CFO Bob Serventi ; principals , pastors and administrators .

The project team is configuring the software to meet diocesan requirements and convert employee information to the new system . User training is underway and users will also be involved with reviewing the information before the planned conversion on July 1 .
