Knights of Columbus have worked with the Global Wheelchair Mission ( GWM ) since 2003 . Nearly 35,000 wheelchairs have been distributed throughout the world to people in need . Every donation of $ 150 provides purchase of a wheelchair that would normally cost $ 500 at a medical supply store .

bly of KC will host a community event to raise funds which will be directed to veterans in need throughout the American Wheelchair Mission branch of the GWM .

The event consists of a walk along Los Gatos Creek Park and a BBQ lunch . Participants can participate in one or both events . The walk is a self-directed and paced event along the creekside byways .
Participants should have sponsors to donate to the American Wheelchair Mission .
The walk will start any time after 9 am and lunch will be 11:30 am - 2 pm at $ 5 per person . An alternative to the $ 5 charge is provision of a salad or side dish for 8-10 people .
Participants can also run or ride a bicycle along the trail . Donations for walking , running or riding are encouraged . Donation forms are available . All funds generated go to the Wheelchair Mission .

Healthy Living Fair April 28 at Our Lady of Refuge Church
This year ’ s Healthy Living Fair , Congregation Shir Hadash ’ s 8 th annual , is being held in conjunction with Our Lady of Refuge Church , 2165 Lucretia Ave ., San Jose , 9 am to 2 pm . There will be a multi-disciplinary team of medical nurse and local resource groups to serve this primarily Hispanic and Vietnamese community .
The Healthy Living Fair provides free health screening tests to large , medically under-served communities . Last year , at St . Maria Goretti Church , 524 people were screened by volunteer physicians and nurses for diabetes , cholesterol and obesity . Buddhist Foundation Tzu Chi performed dental cleanings and VSP Vision Care performed eye exams .
Planners invite volunteers to work with members of the Jewish , Buddhist , Catholic and Muslim communities at this event . Sponsors include The Health Trust , South Bay Public Affairs of Kaiser Permanente , and the Community Benefits Program of El Camino Hospital .
