FEATURE Building a new level of care for Ellis County What does the future of health care look like? Residents in Ellis County need to look no further than the intersection of I-35 and Highway 287 for the answer – the new Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie. Opening in December 2014, the 300,000 -square-foot facility will serve residents in Ellis County and surrounding communities. It is the first hospital in North Texas built under the Baylor Scott & White Health name. Generous contributions from community leaders and dedicated individuals who believe in the mission and vision of Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie have helped make this hospital a cornerstone in the community. Since 2013, more than $2.4 million has been raised in support of this new facility – far surpassing the initial fund-raising goal of $2 million. This impressive effort was fueled by the hard work and dedication of the Baylor Wa xa hachie Fundraising Steering Committee: Co chairs Paula Baucum and Bob Dyess; members Frank “Tres” Blankenbeckler, III, Leroy Fenton, Jeff Frazier, Nancy Hightower, Mackey Morgan, Jim Pitts, Bonney Ramsey, Mike Ramsey, Paul Stevens, Kevin Strength, John Thornhill and John Wray. “Thanks to the efforts of these individuals, excellence lines the hallways of Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie,” said Rowland K. Robinson, Baylor Health Care System Foundation president. To date, 36 philanthropic leaders have come together to pave the way for this fundraising initiative with gifts of $25,000 or more. The vision and foresight of these civic-minded donors are recognized in a unique Founder’s Wall display in the main lobby of the hospital.
