From the Chairman One of my favorite quotes is called “Live with intention.” It reminds us to “laugh often, love freely, express gratitude, help others, continue to learn, practice wellness, play with abandon and do what you love.” The author is unknown, mostly because it has so many iterations, and I bet you could add some phrases and make it your own! I love this quote because it covers so many areas of life and is so positive in its outlook. It makes me think about how we at Baylor are always excited to express gratitude for our many, many wonderful donors, who together made our Baylor Makes Us All Better campaign such an overwhelming success! And if you were able to attend our “Night of Gratitude” in April, you experienced lots of laughter and love as we celebrated all that these funds will do for patients who come to Baylor. It’s been said that God gave each of us two hands – one to help ourselves and one to help others. And the joy in helping others never gets old! Whether you are personally aiding someone in need or responding with funds to meet the needs, you are helping others. Doing it recharges your battery and makes the world a better place to live for all of us. “Live with intention” also reminds me how much I continue to learn by working with the foundation. Every day I learn more about this remarkable institution. I have learned about leading-edge medicine and the fine people who make Baylor an amazing place of health and healing. I have learned about medical education supported in large part by our Grand Rounds Golf Tournament, and about the treatments and exciting research to find a cure for breast cancer funded with monies raised at our Celebrating Women luncheon. I have learned about healthy living and controlling diabetes at the DHWI Healthy Harvest 5K Walk and Fun Run. At our last board meeting, we learned more ways to practice wellness with a presentation on dermatology. With summer and sunshine here, dermatology is not just about preventing wrinkles, it’s about patients with debilitating skin conditions and it’s also about saving lives from skin cancers. So. however you plan to spend your summer, play with abandon, and do what you love, but take care of yourself and your family – be safe, use good sunscreen and make a pledge to live with intention!
