From the Chairman Serving on the Foundation board is such an honor for me! I am always proud to tell the story of Baylor and its mission any chance I get. But what has pleased me most is the number of times someone else tells ME about Baylor! It happens frequently, in the grocery store, over lunch or a special phone call recounting a medical experience. And all the conversations are very similar – each explaining the exquisite medical care, maybe a heart surgery, a difficult pregnancy and birth, a struggle with chronic medical issues. But the most gratifying part of each telling is not just the medical side, but the human side – how every person involved was so caring and concerned, and went out of their way to meet the patient’s and family’s personal needs as well. Of course, I have known these things about Baylor for a long time and our family has experienced them first hand! Baylor has some of the finest physicians, nurses, technicians and staff, with advanced technologies, outstanding research and quality of care. But what sets us apart is that we also have a culture of caring and compassion embodied in individuals who will walk every step of the way with you – physically, emotionally and spiritually. Medical excellence combined with a culture of compassion is one of the reasons Baylor enjoys such a broad base of philanthropic support. You will read in these pages of remarkable gifts recently made to Baylor in special areas, and we are indeed grateful for all that these dollars make possible. We also appreciate and rely on the smaller gifts from thousands of donors who thoughtfully support our excellence, innovation and service. You will find a listing of Baylor’s Top Donors included here too. I hope you find your name listed there – if not, please consider a gift! It is never too late to be a part of the Baylor mission, and I know it will warm your heart to play such an important role in the lives of our patients. As J.M.
