Ways to (HELP) >> A Place to be Myself Ways to help SPONSOR A SMT STUDENT > By Sam Gutierrez summer ministry team Coming to Tejas was really stressful for me because my biggest fear was being open towards people and talking to them about the things I usually keep to myself. I spent my last couple of days at home praying and worrying about my experience here at Tejas and how it would impact my life. I had been working at Camp Tejas for a while since I live in Giddings, but this was my first year as a SMT. I felt like being a high school student here wouldn’t help either because of all the college students around. I was scared they would tease me for being immature. But when I got here it was amazing! I could talk to people and be open like I had never been before. It was such an exciting experience for me. I was able to tell people different things about myself and not have to worry about being teased or ridiculed. I related with people’s problems and was able to help find solutions for them. I know I have grown so much in Christ because of camp. Tejas is a great place to open your heart to the Lord and other people and to be the person who you really are. Tejas is amazing! >> “Tejas is a great place to open your heart to the Lord and other people and to be the person who you really are.” The Tejas Summer Ministry Team is the core of our summer guest services. It is our passion to share Christ and His word with our Summer Ministry Team so that they may grow in Christ and be lights for Him wherever God places them. At Tejas, the Lord uses them each day to minister to each other and to the children and youth who come as campers. Their impact in the Lord’s Kingdom is immeasurable. Please consider providing finanical support for a SMT student. “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.” - Philippians 2:3 Peek of Future Plans I remember in 2001 when we were considering abandoning our old climbing wall in the trees and building a bigger one in the middle of the camp. It wasn’t the normal place to put a climbing wall, but that’s where we built it. We wanted ALL of our guests to enjoy it, even if they just watched and cheered from below. Since then, we’ve turned several new ideas into reality including the swimming pool, Barn 214, and Four Seasons. What has happened in the past eight years is only the beginning. In my mind, we’ve barely come out of the starting blocks. The vision is massive, and we are beginning to lay it all out on our website at www.camptejas.org/ vision. Join us. “The past eight years is only the beginning... we’ve barely come out of the starting blocks.” camp tejas magazine.indd 35 t 35 11/12/2009 1:21:29 pm
