JULY 15 - 18 COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH 3rd and 4th GRADE San Antonio, TX - www.communitybible.com 1 980 THEME: THE AMAZING RACE I n 1980, Westbury Baptist Church of Houston created a committee to explore the possibility of purchasing property for a Christian retreat center shortly after the Powell family developed an interest in selling Camp Tejas. The church created the Westbury Foundation as a nonpro?t organization that will own and operate the retreat center when the property is found. The Westbury Baptist Church youth had conducted weekend retreats at Camp Tejas in previous years and in 1980 were 881264 Camp Tejas Mag.indd 8 scheduled to use Tejas for summer camp. The church pastor and the camp search committee discovered that Camp Tejas was for sale during their summer camp. After a prayer meeting the search committee knew that Camp Tejas was the answer to their prayers. Bill Powell reduced the cost of the property as a donation to the Westbury Foundation and Westbury church members would donate money to help the foundation to purchase Camp Tejas. • Westbury Foundation is created as a 501(c)(3) nonpro?t organization • Seed money is donated by church members for the purpose of buying property • Westbury Foundation purchases Camp Tejas in December of 1980 12/8/2006 2:29:45 PM
