25 YEARS OF MINISTRY
25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
T
wenty-?ve years and 150,000 guests later, Camp
Tejas held its silver anniversary celebration on
Saturday, July 1, 2006. The celebration kicked off
at 10:00 am and ended with a music concert at 8:00
pm. There was a full list of activities available for families throughout the day including a hamburger lunch
and an old-fashioned Texas BBQ supper. Over 300 people attended the celebration and despite the inclement weather everyone had a great time playing Tejas
Games, using the brand new swimming pool, boating in
the lake, climbing the Tejas Tower, and learning about
the future of Camp Tejas.
The 25th Anniversary Celebration was also an opportunity to celebrate the work that Billy and Janice Jones
have done as the camp directors for twenty-?ve years.
“Twenty-?ve years ago, my Valentine’s Day gift to my
wife, Janice, was to load her and our three children up
and move from our home in Houston out to this camp.
With the help of some friends, we unloaded the moving truck on February 14, 1981. Janice and I have lived
and worked here ever since,” says Billy Jones, Chief
Operating Of?cer at Camp Tejas.
During the Jones’ tenure, the camp has grown from
a 140 bed facility serving 2,800 guests in 1981, to a
360 bed facility, serving 10,000 guests in 2005 with the
growth showing no signs of slowing down.
The celebration also served as an opportunity for the
staff and board of Camp Tejas to announce the purchase of one hundred acres of land adjacent to the current camp property, share about future Camp Tejas facilities, and update everyone on the Deepening the Impact
Campaign. Celebration attendees were able to attend
a Camp Tejas “Land Sale” fundraising event. The event
was a huge success as we were able to raise enough
money to purchase thirty-six of the one hundred acres of
land. We hope others will join these families in “owning”
a piece of Camp Tejas.”
“We are now serving a whole new generation of campers. Camp Tejas is now a camp that spans two generations with parents bringing their children to the same
camp they came to as a child, and this is exciting. Our
prayer is that God continues to use Camp Tejas as a
life-changing place for every person that enters these
gates,” says Billy.
We hope everyone that attended had a wonderful
time and for those of you unable to attend, we hope you
will consider helping us celebrate thirty years of ministry in 2011!
