NORTH DAKOTA BAR FOUNDATION – PRO BONO FUND INVESTITURES WELCOME TWO NEW DISTRICT JUDGES Investiture ceremonies were held for two new judges to North Dakota District Court Judges. James S. Hill’s investiture as a judge of the South Central Judicial District took place on September 25. Weiler – SBAND Executive Director In addition to providing pro bono legal services to clients, the lawyers of the Vogel Law Firm generously donated $8,000 to the North Dakota Bar Foundation’s Pro Bono Fund. The State Bar Association of North Dakota and the North Dakota Bar Foundation expresses our appreciation to the lawyers of the Vogel Law Firm for their leadership in meeting our profession’s commitment to access to justice. Not all of us can provide direct pro bono legal services, but with the support of the Pro Bono Fund, all of us can support a commitment to access to justice. Hill had been a trial attorney at the Bismarck firm of Zuger, Kirmis and Smith since 1981. He is among few North Dakota attorneys who have served on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors, and in 2005, Hill received the national American Inns of Court Professionalism Award. In a January 30 ceremony, Susan Bailey was sworn in as a judge of the East Central Judicial District at the Cass County courthouse. The East Central District serves Cass, Steele and Trail counties. Bailey, a West Fargo resident, was elected to the judgeship in the November general election. She replaces Judge Wickham Corwin. Most recently, Bailey served as an administrative law judge and a municipal judge in the North Dakota communities of West Fargo, Horace, Tower City, Kindred and Davenport.
