the adversities they faced to the successes. Tunnel

classrooms. Each room will showcase different
oppressions African Americans face, including, but
not limited to; a Micro Aggression room, a Hair Room,
and a Slavery Room. Each room is run by a student
who is a member of BSU.
Burt adds, “If I could get a message to graduating
high school seniors who will attend the University
of Northern Iowa, I would tell them it is not only for
African American or Black students. We welcome
everyone. It offers great leadership experiences
and when we get together, we have a great time.”
There is no doubt about it, maintaining good grades
is important for getting into college, but clubs and
extracurricular activities help develop social skills
and reveal a great deal about your interests, your
readiness for college, and demonstrate your ability to
making a meaningful contribution and commitment to
something larger. In this case, it’s culture.
Paris shares, “We are very welcoming and open
and respectful. We love to hear people’s opinions
and ideas. We are willing to help. If you need a place
to fit in and people, we are here.” Email bsu@uni.
